Justine Everett Business Analyst, IT, 3 years at goldbug

All about Justine!

Prior to goldbug, I worked for a large specialty retailer in Florida. The first several years in HR, learning the business, roles and programs before being nominated first headquarters employee to join their Executive Management Training Program. Upon completion of the program I was awarded best in class Customer Service, and group project case study winner by the Executive Team. I worked as an Allocator in Accessories prior to moving to Denver further my retail career.

I started with goldbug as an Inventory Analyst on the Operations Team, partnering closely with the Warehouse and Finance departments. In 2016, I was promoted to Manager, Order Fulfillment for the Customer Service Department. This was a new role within the organization that allowed me to build relationships across departments. Early on, I was brought on to our JD Edwards project team. The team worked dynamically to develop and test our new ERP system for the business. I really enjoyed working with the programmers and turns out, I was really good at it! I spent the first 12 months after implementation answering questions, providing training and identifying system improvements to better serve our organization.

In December 2017, I was promoted to Business Analyst for the IT Department. Officially stepping into the role that I had been working towards.

Family Info

My core group of family lives in Florida. Florida and Colorado are amazing vacation destinations and only a 3.5 hour flight, which means, lots of visitors! I return an average of four times a year to kiss my parents, brother, sister, friends and squeeze on my niece and nephew. I have family and extended family in Texas and Phoenix/North Dakota, which are all very easy (and fun!) weekend trips.

More locally in Denver, I’ve built an incredible network of friends and family who also provide love and support…as well as play outdoors for weekend adventures and getaways.

Interests & Hobbies

Outside of the office, I love activities that challenge me physically. Day to day, I am in the gym lifting weights or on a spin bike. This past year, I had set a goal of completing an obstacle course for the first time ever and was so happy to successfully finish it – twice! I love spending time outdoors hiking, camping and taking weekend getaways to explore our beautiful state (or the surrounding).

Outside of that, I love to travel. Our goal is 1-2 large trips a year. Life is short, and there is so much to see.

Most rewarding part of your job

Problem solving. My new role is 50% understanding the business needs and 50% solving and rolling out those solutions. This makes me not just a part of the company, but shaping a company and the processes. Goldbug has exciting stuff happening!

Memorable Goldbug experience, win, challenge or success

I was recently recognized at a company update meeting and awarded our “Bill Gold Award”. Bill Gold was our founder and father of our Owner and CEO, Katherine Gold. The award is given out once a year to a teammate who demonstrates perseverance and persistence. The award is to honor a teammates courage and spirit.

I am not one for public recognition but being presented with an award in front of your organization and CEO, named after her father, is incredible.

A unique fact about you

I’ve already noted I am a gym buff, I love moving weights around a gym! That’s not all that unique.
I am a field volunteer for the museum here in Denver and have been on several fossil expeditions with my boyfriend, who is a Paleontologist.

I’ve spent many long weekends hiking in the badlands or excavating fossils. I still have a lot to learn, and spend most of my time as a great field assistant 😊

Why Goldbug?

Goldbug is a privately-owned company with a family feel. I’ve worked in both small 5-10 person office and larger corporate environments, 11 buildings, 1500 people. For me, Goldbug was the perfect size. They are one of the largest distributors in the United States in our category, but still maintain that family/neighborly feel and relationship with their employees and customers. They have the right people in the right seats, which makes everyone’s role a key player and enforces the “go-getter” mentality. Employing the right individuals allows them to adapt quickly to change and go way above and beyond to best service our customers.

I am empowered to come up with solutions and sit at a table to discuss with our CFO/COO. All levels of the organization ask questions to best understand how to support the project or our business needs.

You (as an employee) are responsible for your own successful career. BUT, companies must play a role, right? Goldbug does not have that HUGE corporate ladder to climb, they instead provide plenty of opportunity for you to create your own path. Fill in the gaps, take chances, expand your creativity.

Noteworthy changes

  • Our warehouse distribution centers are now fully operating out of Seattle, WA. This has resulted in faster receipts from Asia and order processing out to our customers.
  • In June, we moved into our new downtown Denver location in the heart of the Central Business District. Updated office space within an 1891 historic gem – our building was one of the first buildings west of the Mississippi River to have an elevator. How neat!
    • The downtown location has allowed many of us to switch to public transportation, both light rail and bus stops are a block away. My morning commute is no longer spent in a car and is now become one of my moments
